      Hi Erin, Ciara and Elsie

now this is a really tough question. I think my favourite experiment was one where I took the soil from around the roots of Barley, took DNA out of it from millions of bacteria and then used a technique called the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to copy the DNA lots and lots of times so that I had lots of it. I then sent the DNA for sequencing and was able to discover what bacteria were living in the soil beside the plants roots. This was such an exciting experiment because some bacteria can do really helpful jobs for plants like help them to get nutrients from soil or to help protect them from bad bacteria that can make them sick. By finding out what bacteria were living around my plants roots I could start to work out what jobs they might be doing to help the plants to grow.

      Senga 🙂

At the minute we are growing pancreatic cells in a flask. We have feed them and look after them for a couple of weeks until they are at the stage where can test certain drugs on them. This is called tissue culturing and it is a very cool science experiment.
